thoughts on Fanfictions?
Do you read/write them?
if you do :
When and how did you first found out about fanfiction?
Do you prefer them over original novels?

>Do you read/write them?
Read, yes. Write, no. I go through phases of reading lots at once and then none. I don’t read fics for many fandoms. These days I mostly listen to podfics. I attempted to write a funny version of the Lotr when I was 12 but never wrote much of it, if that counts. Been meaning to try again sometime by writing a proper in depth and thought out fic.

>When and how did you first found out about fanfiction?
Found some on a general fansite when I was 12.

>Do you prefer them over original novels?

No. Too many of them blend together. Original novels tend to be more unique. I do like the unique fanfiction style of writing, very heavy on feelings, and wish it was more generally accepted. I wonder it’s because fanfiction is mostly written by women while classic novels were written by men.

in general i find the quality of writing in fanfics to be extremely low

>thoughts on Fanfictions?
When written well, they're wonderful.

>Do you read/write them?

I've read many but have only written one, a short erotic Meet The Robinsons fanfic, years ago. It's still up.

>When and how did you first found out about fanfiction?

I browsed DeviantArt as a child, saw the term "fanfic" used frequently, and wanted to know what it meant. I'd already mentally created "fanfiction" of certain books and movies that I liked, just didn't know at the time that "fanfiction" was something that existed.

>Do you prefer them over original novels?

I appreciate both for what they are. I don't really feel that fanfics are comparable to their source material, since different people have different interpretations of the material. I enjoy seeing the various ways that characters and their interactions can be interpreted.

I’ve never written fanfiction and barely read any, but I remember this one specific fetish fanfic I read when I was ~14 and for some reason I still remember parts of it pretty well. It just stuck with me for some reason lol. Probably because it was pretty rare to find female writers who wrote that sort of stuff, so it felt more catered to me.
OH and, I remember when I was around 12/13, I was obsessed with The Beatles and would read this fanfic that got new chapters once in a while on this instagram account. I remember each post would be a new chapter and I loved it. I can’t remember whether or not it was a John x Paul fanfic or if it was John/Paul x reader. I just remember getting really excited about it lmao. I wonder if that account is still up and how the writer is doing.

A fat fetish lol. Most of the content in that fetish is catered toward guys who like BBWs. What I remember is that this fanfic was about this girl who goes to a party and meets this guy who used to be really sporty, but got big when he had some sort of injury. I THINK toward the end that he ends up driving her to a secluded area and she ends up running into the woods out of paranoia that he’s going to hurt her, but I know they end up meeting back up in the end and she confesses her fetish to him and he’s ok with it.
It wasn’t extremely fetish-y at all and the main girl was relatable so I think that’s part of why I still remember it. Pls no bully… I know the fetish is gross and unethical in practice.

Thank god I'm not the only one. I don't even listen to The Beatles, I just saw some Beatles fanart on Tumblr back in the day and the artist said it was for a fanfic, so I got curious and read it. It's odd having to clarify to family members why you know certain Beatles facts but know nothing of their music.
