Most people don't know this but the reason you see so many pigeons missing toes and entire feet isn't down to bumblefoot and other disease, it's mostly because they get fibres, string and human hair wrapped round their feet which gradually become tighter and tighter until the flesh becomes necrotic and falls off.
This is extremely painful for the birds, so if you see a pigeon with stringfoot, please stop and help them out!
