I struggle too, so I can't truly give you advice, but if you want to give it a go we can try being friends ! I've met all of my best online friends through chance on imageboard, but it's hard to reccomend meeting people that way because it is completely through chance and most imageboards are occupied by shitty people.

Tumblr! I spent years not knowing how to make online friends until I started posting regularly there. But actually posting stuff, not just silently reblogging. I did the same on twitter but from my experience, people interact way less there. Also, dont be scared to have anon on. Most of my friends sent me anons before dming me, i don't know if they would've dmed me at all if I hadn't replied to their anons beforehand saying I'd love to talk.

There are a lot of anons here willing to be your friend. When i express my desire for friends i’ve got a few couple of anons willing to exchange emails and they sound really nice and likeminded people but i’m too shy to proceed.

Not OP but in a similar situation. What should kinds of things did you post? I only post my art, I rarely post just text or things about my life or whatever because I worry nobody will care and I get demotivated when I get no responses. I'm unironically quite envious of people who are able to express themselves on a public platform. I'm too afraid of being ignored or made fun of. And then when I do see people blog post on twitter/tumblr they already have a lot of followers and a group of people who interact with their every post which I obviously don't have. I just wonder how they even started making friends on those sites…

I guess mostly just jokes or if i post my thoughts or things about my life I try to present it in a humorous way so it's not so boring, like you said. Though I have tons of mutuals who just post mundane stuff like "eating oatmeal" and still get likes lol. Posting makes me anxious sometimes too and I delete stuff if I feel ignored or embarrassed, but unless you're like a porn blog being creepy under people's posts I don't see why anyone would make fun of you unprovoked.

Nona that's not hard to get at all! ^^ If you follow people you share similar interests with and reblog/post about that, I don't see why they wouldn't follow you back. I think posting your art is a great start, do you post fanart too? Imo thats a good way to make your art and blog gain some traction if you put it in the fandoms tags.
Don't worry, It took me a while to get followers and make friends too. And maybe I was lucky that they dmed me first, but if you wanna befriend someone and feel too shy to interact directly you could try sending her an anon ask! Not everyone online has a huge friend group, a ton of people are lonely and want to make friends too<3
