When are homicidal thoughts "average", and when are they not?

I imagine most people have imagined beating someone up or shooting someone they really hated but would never go through with it or even truly want to; so what sets potential killers homicidal thoughts apart?

I think the difference is that serial killers are sociopaths or narcissists and thus want to actually go through with their fantasies irl and don't care about the effects on other people, whereas a normal person wants to just keep those thoughts as fantasies because of a desire not to harm others.

it's kinda like how most people have that sorta urge to jump when they're on the edge of a cliff, but most don't actually want to go through with it since they don't really want to die, and that sets them apart from suicidal people.

Most killers have average homicidal thoughts. It has nothing to do with how good of a person you are and more to do with risk averseness.

It's ‚Äčatypical when you have obsessive thoughts or plan to put them into practice
