Harem animes aren't designed to be a realistic or accurate depiction of dating. They appeal to the "nice guys" that have no real personality or social skills but also can't handle rejection. Their wish fulfillment fantasy is to have their "nice" behavior be validated by women but also to not grow as a person and become a well rounded human being. It's a coping mechanism for "nice guys" that don't want to change and become better people.
