(Bullet) Journaling/ Planners and Diaries Thread Anonymous 105685

Post about your journals and journal inspirations here!

Some icebreakers:
- What made you start?
- What do you usually use your journal for? creative writing? expressing thoughts? organising? making collages/moodboards?
- What kind of notebook do you write in?
- Do you do daily logs, weekly logs, monthly logs?
- Do you mainly use your journal for improving organisation or personal expression? or both?
- Where do you get your journals?
- How often do you write?
- Do you have a preference with what you write with (favourite pens/stationary)?
- Do you prefer keeping your journal minimalist, or do you prefer decorating or drawing in your journal?
- If you decorate your journal/planner/diary, what themes do you normally go for? and what do you usually use to decorate (gel pens, wasabi tape, markers)
- Any favourite stores/companies to get all your journals and journaling goodies from?

This seems more like a /feels/ post tbh

>What made you start?

Needing to vent my feelings and to have a reference to my past self and memorize experiences I liked .I have a lot of diaries and journals. I have around 6 real ones (I started the first one when I was 11, and after a 4 year old break continued writing diaries). And about 8 digital ones, first 3 of which were lost due to my pc being a retard. I miss those the most, it's the most important timeline for me
>What do you usually use your journal for? creative writing? expressing thoughts? organising? making collages/moodboards?
My current physical journal/diary I use mostly for writing stories based on my life (like alternate universes), venting about certain annoying individuals and rambling about self improvement and self care. My digital ones are for my limerence, my encounters/memories (those are the words I use when referring to meeting people worthy of remembering them), a lot of times I ramble paragraphs upon paragraphs about the same topic, mostly about my limerence lmao. Also one is dedicated to documenting my dreams.
>What kind of notebook do you write in?
The ones that I find aesthetically pleasing the most, when I'l have my own money I'll order some online. The digital ones are in microsoft word.
>Do you do daily logs, weekly logs, monthly logs?
I don't have a schedule, I just do in accordance to what is happening to me. Interesting dream? Write in dream logging diary. Need to write down self care tips? Physical diary, the list goes on.
>Do you mainly use your journal for improving organisation or personal expression? or both?
well, I almost never think about improving my organization. In fact, diaries are the most organized thing in my personal space rn.
>Where do you get your journals?
Stationery shops…? idk what they're called in english.
>How often do you write?
Depends whats going on in my life. I havent wrote in months, i think. I hit a plateau because nothing interesting is going on right now, not even dreams. I have 1 thng I want to write about though but I'm procrastinating.
>Do you have a preference with what you write with (favourite pens/stationary)?
I like to write with thin (but not extremely thin) dark blue pens. I hate the thick ones
>Do you prefer keeping your journal minimalist, or do you prefer decorating or drawing in your journal?
I used to draw in my journals a lot. I still love the 2 notebooks I taped together when i was 11, I glued my drawings and quotes inside it was so edgy. Now I just write, with short comics/illustrations to laugh at when I reread. Still remember that caricature did of myself wen I was at my lowest.
>If you decorate your journal/planner/diary, what themes do you normally go for? and what do you usually use to decorate (gel pens, wasabi tape, markers)
I just drew with the same pen I was writing with
>Any favourite stores/companies to get all your journals and journaling goodies from?
No, I couldn't care any less tbh. As long as it does the job and the notebook is comfortable and pretty.

This is what my current notebook looks like. Nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as any of the pinterest pictures but I like how shiny it is. My handwriting is pretty wonky and hard to read it's not english btw so don't even try to decrypt lol for other people but I consider that a god thing. I cram as much text into them as possible, as I said, no decorating.

2-3 journals a month depending on the size and how much i can write

i don't talk about my writing until its where i want it and its done. currently im really annoyed at all of it. I'm sick of this and I want to throw my stuff at the wall. This seems like a good place to vent.

Usually this kinda thing doesn't last long but I'm sooo tired of writing about this present topic I just want it to be done for gods sake.

>What made you start?
wanting to do something productive with my life
>What do you usually use your journal for? creative writing? expressing thoughts? organising? making collages/moodboards?
organizing: habit tracker, workout routine, to do list, reading list …
>What kind of notebook do you write in?
A5 with lines
>Do you do daily logs, weekly logs, monthly logs?
i check off daily what i did
>Do you mainly use your journal for improving organisation or personal expression? or both?
personal improvement (mentally, physically)
>Where do you get your journals?
got it for free in school but never used it to take notes in class
>How often do you write?
i make the layout all my pages before the new year starts so i only have to check off daily what i did during that year, that takes some minutes before bed time
>Do you have a preference with what you write with (favourite pens/stationary)?
any pen is fine
>Do you prefer keeping your journal minimalist, or do you prefer decorating or drawing in your journal?
minimalist
>If you decorate your journal/planner/diary, what themes do you normally go for? and what do you usually use to decorate (gel pens, wasabi tape, markers)
no decoration
>Any favourite stores/companies to get all your journals and journaling goodies from?
no stores, i didn't buy anything to get started

- What made you start?
I just wanted to start a diary of my life. I started back in middle school about stupid stuff idk then stopped for years and years. I decided to start again because I didn’t want to forget things.
- What do you usually use your journal for? creative writing? expressing thoughts? organising? making collages/moodboards?
I have a few different journals. One is my diary. I also have a waste book, commonplace book, sewing notebook, and creative writing ish journal.

- What kind of notebook do you write in?
It depends. Not spiral bound unless it’s my waste book. Mostly hardcover. Except my sewing notebook and my waste book.
- Do you do daily logs, weekly logs, monthly logs?
lol it’s been 84 years. I’ve been going through the slog.
- Do you mainly use your journal for improving organisation or personal expression? or both?
Both.
- Where do you get your journals?
Anywhere
- How often do you write?
I thought I already answered this?
- Do you have a preference with what you write with (favourite pens/stationary)?
Yes.
- Do you prefer keeping your journal minimalist, or do you prefer decorating or drawing in your journal?
I decorate my diary. Everything else is just writing.
- If you decorate your journal/planner/diary, what themes do you normally go for? and what do you usually use to decorate (gel pens, wasabi tape, markers)
Whatever I feel like at the moment. Gel pens, washi tape, watercolors, stickers.
- Any favourite stores/companies to get all your journals and journaling goodies from?
Paperblanks, papersource, Etsy.

got this at flyingtiger, i use it as a to-do list/accountability book and i occasionally write out my thoughts in the back pages
basically just trying to easy myself into journaling hoping that i'll be able to be consistent with it one day

Anonymous 115692

I'm not into this, looks like too much work…
I have tried to keep a diary but eventually I'd just give up. I'm terrible at forming habits, especially if they require a lot of mental effort (I'm used to just thinking about things, and when I try to write or draw them, my ideas are so disorganized that I end up forgetting things, and then I get frustrated).
Maybe a planner would be better since it has a practical use for me: every time I've tried scheduling my activities, I've made a lot of progress on my chores and stuff (but since I can't keep up with a new routine, I stop following my schedule shortly after).

That's a cute idea, I want a notebook like that. I have to write to do lists daily or I forget where I am lolol

Anonymous 129760

Do you destroy your venting diaries when you finish them? Or do you keep them and rereading your thoughts occasionally?

I am latter, though I want to destroy them, because they are making me cringe. But I am afraid I will lose my memories that way, I already forgot a half of what I was writing about in them

Anonymous 129765

>>129760
No I keep them. Edgy teen me thought about destroying them in a campfire to "close this chapter of my life" but I never ended up doing that. I don't re-read mine tho.

Anonymous 129839

>>129760
I don't think I will destroy mine, but you gave me the nudge to get a vent pocket journal. Just something a little separate from my normal diary that I can carry around.

Anonymous 129852

>get excited about recording hopes, dreams, goals, and life events
>start a new journal
>it becomes depressive log #364
>get embarrassed and burn it
how do i stop doing this

Anonymous 129880

>>129852
honestly maybe you should just start small instead. i.e., have a goal of writing down three or so basic things and not letting yourself get excited which seems to actually make you spiral in the other direction. do you look at a lot of inspo?

Anonymous 129927

>>129852
One thing to remember is that your journal (at least imo) is meant for only you. It's unlikely anyone will see it unless you show it to them. Feel free to talk to yourself amongst the pages. I'm sorry that it can embarrass you, but just tuck the journal away somewhere when it's done and don't look back at it until you're packing the next one away.

and like >>129880 mentioned. Looking at inspo on pineterest or other places can help. maybe writing bullet points and expanding on them is good for you to be more centered on what you want to write about, rather than just free writing and letting your mind take over your hand.

>>129852
Maybe you can keep two different journals? One for depressive/negative thoughts and one for recording the positive things? Regardless I think negative thoughts are allowed to have a place too, I don't think you should repress that as long as you don't get stuck in those feelings.
