Are people less resilient than in the past? Anonymous 208093

I think so, but that may be skewed by the internet which lets people display their silliness, tantrums and mental illness to the whole world. If you're wrong, an asshole, or mentally ill whole communities who assure you that you're right, normal and valid are just a few clicks away.
What do you think or have experienced on that matter? Are people less equipped to handle life and other people these days?

Anonymous 208095

>>208093
People on the left, yes.

Anonymous 208096

>>208095
>ywn live to see leftist men return to being dangerous bandits, revolutionaries and independent militants whose left wing activism involves assassinating presidents and robbing banks
the day has gone down in the west.

why can't Americans ever shut up about their retarded politics

Anonymous 208103

>>208093
In ways but everything smelled in the past. They say up until the 1930s there was a stench to human civilization. For most of human history people smelled to hell and back of absolute ass. Think about that, think about it long and hard. Most of your ancesters smelled like farm animals.

Also they were much more prone to violence, religious hysteria and ignorance.

Anonymous 208104

>>208095
Look at right wing politician tantrums and think long and hard about what you just said.

Anonymous 208116

>>208099
And they're spreading this crap across the world, here in hellzil now people really love to shove fucking politics in absolutely everything and really fell soooo smart for it, wtf

Anonymous 208138

>smelled like farm animals
This is what I'm trying to be

Anonymous 208139

Resilient to what exactly?
> If you're wrong, an asshole, or mentally ill whole communities who assure you that you're right, normal and valid are just a few clicks away.
Except some of those groups are right and a lot of what's seen as normal absolutely should not be.

Anonymous 208140

Definitely. That's part of why anxiety and depression rates are going up. Read "The Coddling of the American Mind:" https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/09/the-coddling-of-the-american-mind/399356/

Anonymous 208164

are people today really more anxious and depressed than people in the past though? if these rates are based on official diagnoses, keep in mind, a lot more people in the past didn't go to therapy, because there was more stigma attached to it, and fewer services were available.

208167

>>208164
Yeah I don't think people today are necessarily worse off mentally. In the past people would just drink more alcohol to self medicate, smoke, men would just go to brothels more and spank their wives more to vent or something. Nowadays people are more willing to seek therapy, psychologists and psychiatrists which causes the statistics to rise but I don't think there was ever a time millions of people weren't very anxious, depressed and stressed.
Just asking older people and people from your family and it's enough to see that people had more or less the same problems, they just didn't seek proper help and instead would hit the bottles or other more socially acceptable means specially men.
The only difference I can see is that this newer generation like teens and children may be more depressed and anxious compared to the past specially because the pandemic stunted them but other ages, not really

Anonymous 208170

According to some teachers this is their worst group of kids ever. Lockdown virtual school and social media already destroyed them.

Anonymous 208183

My extremely selective school had gotten rid of test scores the year after I placed in. I can't speak for how underclassmen behave since I am mostly in higher level courses, but there's a joke at my school where people will say "test-optional moment" if someone who does something stupid or naïve

You've got hoards of students on college campuses doing shit like snapping their fingers to not trigger someone by clapping, and a bunch of they/them blue-hairs actively working as employees at said college campuses too. So yes. A whole generation of braindead, paperthin skinned NPCs are being actively encouraged and put in positions to keep encouraging this behavior. College was once supposed to prepare young people for the real world. Now it's just an institution to keep shielding people from it.

Anonymous 208280

>>208262
Ok but you sound like out of touch tinfoil-hat wearing trailer trash with the way you describe university, and it's hard to take this level of paranoid seriously

Anonymous 208281

>>208280
Have you been at university in any western country? What she's describing is no weird or alien in a university setting in any way.

Anonymous 208284

>>208281
NTA but while I agree that college campuses do act as a kind of shelter from unwanted (ie right-wing) opinions, I've never heard of anyone snapping instead of clapping because it will "trigger" people kek I think >>208262 is mildly exaggerating what it is like at a university in the 2020s

Anonymous 208288

>>208284
>I've never heard of anyone snapping instead of clapping because it will "trigger"
Because it's fucking fake, like all culture war nonsense.
the article the initial moron linked is also just culture war nonsense. No real analysis at all.

Anonymous 208290

>>208288
Why do brainwashed leftists insist on calling things "fake" when they give you bad optics? Do you think these Soviet-type tactics work in 2022?
What about unviersities promoting prostituting while refusing to lower their tuition so that their female students don't have to be raped for money in order to study? Is that also fake? https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sex-work-durham-university-students-b1956484.html
Universities are a hell hole of indoctrination and anyone who attends one knows it is true.

Anonymous 208291

>>208284
If students and proffessors lean towards progressive, nobody is sheltering anybody. There simply isn't neocon influence. How would stimulating right wing lunacy improve the situation though. Trannies make up a tiny fraction of student populations, and as revolting as they're they're not as braindead as sleazy right-wings will ever be. Rightwingers are pactically vetables upstairs. Look at the fiasco with Mccarthy and tell me we need more blithering buffoons like that, they're a danger to themselves and everything they come in contact with

Anonymous 208294

Then why did you post to this thread at all ??? You think they won't infest your country like they've infested China, Russia, Hungary?

Anonymous 208300

>>208299
American retardation? It has already infested my country, which is why I can tell you how ridiculously cult-like and anti-intellectual universities in the West have become thanks to American wokelet ideology.

Anonymous 208312

>>208300
You make it sound like you would rather the population return to being uneducated serfs though???

Do you live in an asshole of a country where that is common place, and dumb women make better wives??

It's hard to tell with the way you generalize university. You say "anti-intellectial" but look at half if Brazil and what intellectual means to them.

Anonymous 208314

>>208312
>uneducated serfs
My country had fully-functional universities while you were still throwing kids off pyramids, you dolt. We don't need American retardation to educate us.

Anonymous 208317

>>208314
Pyramids ? Apparently you do, an American could still write something that made more sense than this

Anonymous 208318

>>208291
>If students and proffessors lean towards progressive, nobody is sheltering anybody. There simply isn't neocon influence
This notion that the ideological duel between liberals and conservatives is the full spectrum of politics and that liberals represent the left wing ought never have taken root in academia of all places. Progressives are definitely dedicated to sheltering people. They shelter liberalism from acknowledging its inherent relationship to imperialism, for starters. Even the most Conservative academics ought to have the academic integrity to acknowledge the immense divide between liberals, like Kennedy, and leftists, like Lee Harvey Oswald. But they don't, because they are not held to account, because progressives are more dedicated to sheltering liberalism from acknowledging its relationship to imperialism than they are to either holding their "adversary" conservatives to the truth or to fostering the myth that all the benefits the world has had from Leftism are instead owed to Liberalism.

You're the one who thinks women being encouraged to use onlyfans by a university (by the way maybe link an article I don't have to sign up for to get the details next time, I'm not fucking doing that) is somehow something I should have to answer for when it has nothing at all to do with what I, or you for that matter said.
This is how people who get their understanding of these things from the fucking culture war try to argue. It's also stupid and YOU are stupid.

Anonymous 208331

>>208329
>by the way maybe link an article I don't have to sign up for to get the details next time
Did you start using the internet yesterday?

What I said is that American wokelet ideology has infested universities, and you were hell-bent on denying it. I gave you one example of that. Go cry more on Twitter, maybe try to get them to cancel this website to make you feel better.

Anonymous 208343

NTA, but where did she say that.
To me it seems like she's just not that interested in your anglo culture-war BS

>Do you think these Soviet-type tactics work in 2022?
>Communism is when you call something fake. The more you call it fake, the more communist you are.
Guess, you're a fascists. Because fascism is when you're butt-hurt. The more butt-hurt you are, the more fascists you are

Anonymous 210053

> If you're wrong, an asshole, or mentally ill whole communities who assure you that you're right, normal and valid are just a few clicks away.
My experience has been the opposite, I've almost always been treated like I'm wrong and insane no matter what my position is. People don't have anything to lose by being blindly demeaning online, like they do IRL.

Anonymous 210055

>>208290
>Universities are a hell hole of indoctrination and anyone who attends one knows it is true.
Nah, this is bullshit. The average university is very utilitarian, people go there to get a degree and not much else. We just hear more about these little bits of cringe because they're fun to talk about but they are such a tiny fucking part part of the experience that you usually have to actively seek them out to have any contact with them.

The day-to-day life of a modern university is so fucking dull that you'll wish it actually was the cringefest people told you it was.

Anonymous 210069

>>208093
yes because these days the more "victim" you are the less people can do to you so you stfu with your whining, or rioting, etc. Happens all the time.

Anonymous 210078

>>210055
Depends what degree you’re getting. Honestly the better the prospects of work after a degree the better the classes.

Anonymous 210084

>>210069
Yes they invent illnesses and disabilities to be part of the club and how are these people ever going to grow if they're treated like they can do no wrong? It's impossible. It'll just make them a bunch of narcissists.

Also why are there so many libtards itt

Anonymous 210204

> College was once supposed to prepare young people for the real world. Now it's just an institution to keep people shielded from it.
Oof. I think you hit the nail on the head, there.

Anonymous 210207

>>208324
NTA, but are we talking about countries or continents? Obviously there are pyramids in Mexico, but it seemed pretty clear that the two of you were discussing the U.S.

Anonymous 210306

>>208093
You should avoid using the internet as a talking point. You're only getting the smallest, craziest yet loudest minorities for show. I don't think people are better or worse off, honestly.
