COLLEGE ADVICE!!!!! Anonymous 311626

good dad my dear nonas i start college in about 15 to 20 days and i am already spiraling. i feel insecure about being 164 cm and 71 kilos but then my dumbass realised that a new place is basically a blank canvas and i get to decide how people see me. for once i think i have a chance to rebrand myself since all my school life i was the same geeky nerdy fat kid nobody wanted to speak with. i have at least 15 days so i need sharp and effective ways to drop five kilos before i land there and then i can pace myself later. i also want advice on saving money doing well academically handling relationships and building friendships because this feels like the one chance to get everything right and i would rather walk in with strategy than stumble in blind.

Learn how to use gym equiptment and start using your campus gym as soon as you move in. Start counting calories.

hi, when you're in college it can be hard to eat healthy, check if you have a kitchen and if you don't, invest in one of those plug in electric pots, there's so many dishes you can make, and buy frozen chopped veggies and sautee them in that, plus some lentils or meat and condiments, condiments don't really have any calories basically

thank you nona i am considering joining the local gym for the next ten days to become familiar with the equipment would you recommend anything in particular

>>311629
hello, i hope you are doing well i have recently purchased a portable induction cooktop along with a few vessels i tried preparing chicken soup on it today and it turned out wonderful

i have been chatting with this guy since the summer and he told me he has a little crush on me i said i like him too but also that i am not quite ready for a relationship now that i am leaving for college and he will not be there with me i am wondering if i should stop talking to him because lately he does not seem as interested as he used to be or maybe i am just overthinking it

Anonymous 311636

i would be incredibly grateful if older nonas could share some guidance on navigating friendships and relationships in college so that i ought to learn how to build meaningful connections and sustain them with balance because no matter how much effort i put in my friendships often fade as resentment slowly builds within them i have also come to recognize that i tend to over share in my search for connection and that i am very much a people pleaser at the same time i sometimes fall into the habit of speaking behind others backs which is a flaw i am consciously working to overcome i have also experienced one relationship that left me completely shattered when my ex chose to leave because i had allowed myself to become entirely dependent on him something i now understand i should never have done

ps: the summer guy ignoring me and replying within 6 hours is making me anxious and it makes me feel like im going to lose a friend i enjoyed speaking with

1) dont eat bread, pasta, sugar, or any carbs. No juice, soda, lemonade, etc.

2) ear meat or fish and vegetables - as much as you want.

3) lift weights every day.

my tips as a current college nona who also "rebranded" herself

1. your college may have gym facilities that are available to you as a student, so check that before purchasing a gym membership

2. Do NOT tie urself down to a moid. You will suffer emotionally and academically. College moids are generally looking for a replacement mother and they will treat you as such, and also cheat on you.

3. making friends, in my experience, was much easier in college because other people being in your major/program means you have a built-in common interest. There are also plenty of clubs/organizations for nerdy things

4. There is no way to lose 5 kg in 15 days that is sustainable or even possible. In fact, do not ever enter a severe calorie deficit for any prolonged period of time because it will backfire. Speaking as a former anorexic, fasting and low calorie deficits permanently damaged my metabolism and made it far easier to gain weight/harder to lose it. Gaining muscle did help me combat this tho and I would recommend it even if you aren't fucked up like me

In general, I have found college really fun and fulfilling. I am a loner who mostly wanted to focus on academics and my future career, but even just doing that I still met plenty of friends, honestly way more than I had in high school. I'm sure it will all work out well for you, although it can be a tough adjustment. Good luck nona <3

^^^^ this.

Nona, right now your weight might seem like the end of the world, but I promise you that there are more important things for your potential college friends to care about. (And if a guy cares that much about your appearance, don't date him, he'll just make you feel like shit.)

If you want to lose weight for your health, mental or physical, go for it. But be careful and slow. Generally 0.25-0.8kg per week is a reasonable weight loss goal depending on your starting physical health.

Step 1 is just to built up your muscles. Make sure you're exercising with proper form. Take a walk every day. Drink enough water. Once you've started being healthy, and building habits, then you can focus on actually losing weight. It's not about instant gratification but instead constant effort to an overall goal.

If you focus on trying to get as slim as possible as fast as possible, you WILL develop an eating disorder and wreck your metabolism for years if not your whole life, as well as make yourself constantly constipated, nauseous, irritable, stupid (bad for college), your hair will fall out, your nails will get yellow, and so on.

Just take it slow, that way you'll look back in a couple months and go "wow, I've made good progress!" instead of "wow, my life was so much better before I was addicted to starving myself"

I think, if anything, college made me feel more like myself and let me focus on my own interests… it depends a lot on if you are studying something that you love (I am, but it's perfectly understandable to study something you aren't obsessed with if you just want to make money to pursue your interests in other ways).

Your college might have classes you can take about art and even the more "obscure" skills like metalworking. At my college, for instance, they offer a glassblowing class.

I like to read as well, other than that I like to play video games and learn languages.

The very best thing you can do for yourself is to focus on networking and gaining useful skills. In my experience they don't actually teach everything that's desired in the field, for example certain software or specific knowledge. I know what it's like to be 18 and obsessed with looking cute and/or starting over but it's not as important as you think it is right now. In 4 years time you'll never see a huge chunk of the people you're gonna meet ever again, make sure you walk away with enough connections and skills to make your transition from education into the working market as smooth as possible.

Anonymous 311673

I agree with what others have said above in that investing in a rice cooker/crock pot is the best thing you can do for yourself if you're going to be living in a housing situation with no proper kitchen available to you, eating out nowadays is way too expensive and not worth it anyways and you can make much tastier food at home with a crock pot, it helped me avoid the dreaded "freshman 15" when I was in college.

Also network, network, network. My internships and college club work helped me so much in having my first job out of college be a cushy remote email job, don't get your degree without at least a bit of internship/extra curricular experience along with it, you'll be boned even if youre getting an in-demand degree.

Good luck Nona!

Americans are absolutely retarded bootlickers now.

Americans will look you in the eye and say horses have nothing to do with transportation.

Americans think that there is no chance tyranny will increase in the future.

Your weight sounds fine and like an unnecessary distraction from you just relaxing and enjoying the moment, even if its nothing like you expected and not as "good as you had hoped". From my personal experience as a STEM student, many people in college and uni don't have time for friends or hanging out. We have to balance work, school, internships, extracurriculars, stress from family and peers, our own hobbies, etc. Dont think college and university will be all parties and preppy girls. All of us have very important work to get done and not much time to do it. So if people don't seem to want to be friends or reciprocate talking outside of class do not take it personally. 4 years of College and uni and I've only made maybe 2 or 3 friends each of them lasting only a semester. As for the rest, The definition of insanity is to try the same things over and over again expecting a different result. Being neurodivergent(I'm assuming you are as I relate to your thoughts and feeling alot from when I was out of hs) is difficult bc society is constantly distracting us with what it says we should prioritize, what it says we should focus on. I think you should focus on yourself, what you like to do, getting much more independence such as going out on your own(out to eat, out to bars, just to the pet store alone) you will be incredibly surprised how much more at peace you are when you are alone and able to think your own thoughts without being distracted by things that don't matter like your weight or what you are wearing or your hair or what that guy meant when he said that, etc. Now is the time to learn to be alone and learn independence its incredibly foundational for your self esteem to come to your own conclusions about what you want to do and what you prioritize in life.

Also very good advice, agree. I'm still trying g to figure out what networking is. Biochem major

making friends in college is easy, just compliment the things you like about ppl and ask them questions about it. everything else stated itt is good too, do not look for a boyfriend that will distract you from studies and don't worry about your weight its not worth having an eating disorder. if u desperately want to lose weight at some point i would only recommend keto diet and semaglutide but you really shouldn't be trying to reduce at all when you have other things to worry about, doing well in school noteably, because there are things that will affect your energy levels and mood when you try dieting that won't be good and will distract you from studies, such as being vitamin deficient. changing your metabolism in significant ways is an involved process that requires a large amount of research, which if you do not take into account will either waste your time to accomplish nothing or marginal results, or even worse, give you a debilitating disorder that can seriously damage your body and mind long term.

personally when i was in college i did martial arts and a parkour club which was great because it was a source of exercise and a social setting as well. you should join clubs for other things you like as well, such as professional organizations for the field you want to go into.

most important to your studies, you should develop friendships with the professors you like, they will help you the most in college and after by setting you up for your career and helping you figure out what you want to do with your life.
