I'm trying to recover from my neetdom and I have a job interview at a fast food place. I have a 12 year gap in employment and I don't know what do if they ask me about it. My friend suggested I just tell them I was sick because employers can't question your health. Am I overthinking this? I'm a bit anxious but would like to be a functioning member of society again.

health sounds plausible, in fact much of neetdom is due to health anyways so it's not like you're lying.
or you could even tell them you were a nun or amish or something, in the end it's more about how you come across when you say it

don’t fucking tell them that they’re not going to check your references either way just make some shit up. they’re gonna think you’re retarded for real if you lie about working in food or retail for 12 years and don’t know how to work a cash register though. but honestly i think you’ll find that they’re going to treat you like shit for not being 16 and everyone is going to be on drugs. it’s kind of too late to lie i guess so i would just say maybe you worked under the table or some shit? say you’ve bounced around and maybe find a place that closed and say oh i worked there but it doesn’t exist to use as a reference? they’re going to hire you either way but they’re gonna bully you because they’re all gonna be insane drug addicts or literal high schoolers.
