I don't really know what to tell you, his reaction is weird on many levels. Doesn't he want grand kids ? I was about to tell you that some people love their children differently, but once again that was before reading your post until the end.
I really can't explain that reaction. Maybe he hates the father ? I'm just trying to think of any excuse beside "unsensitive psycho", this is concerning
In any case it's really important for you to surround yourself with supportive, non-toxic people. Look in your in-laws, friends or colleagues (not a big fan of the latter but hey)
