Honest thoughts on Antidepressants and SSRIs? Do they work or are they just scams?

I've gone on anti anxiety meds and they didn't really help much in my experience but maybe I got too low of a dose. Unfortunately I was a teenager with parents in the room so I couldn't be fully honest with the therapist

It helped me personally, it softened the worst of my anxiety and depression and didn't really numb me as much as I keep hearing online. I'm off them now and learned to manage my problems, but sometimes I wish back on them when I'm having a particularly bad day, but still, I'm having more energy without them.

Antidepressants helped me but SSRIs messed with my head. I felt like less of a person, like i was cut off from my emotions. It took forever to get off and i was constantly sleepy.
