being good Anonymous 321419
hello nonas. i have a genuine question. im a bit of a sperg so do not laugh: what is the purpose of being a good person or ontologically good if it brings more suffering on the good person, as being good leads to more cases where the person loses? why would anyone want to be the loser? and we instill ideas of goodness for some kind of deeper personal meaning anyway… why?

What is a good person, first of all? Let’s say, it’s about not being exploitative towards others, following the general idea of goodness that other people set, so on and so forth.
These things can indeed lead to losses after all, so why are they good? Someone could exploit your trust and kindness. Why should we be altruistic instead of being selfish?
Imagine for a second that you’re in a group. You’re trying to survive in a scary apocalypse. Would being selfish and mean towards your fellows be an effective strategy? Maybe, short term. But it’s in the group’s self interest to get rid of you because it needs “good” and cooperative people to survive. And groups are generally more powerful than individuals.
Ultimately our societies are built on the idea of cooperation, and thus the idea of goodness is set in stone in our shared consciousness.
I wish I could elaborate more. My post is getting long enough, though.
Yeah I’ve been watching the walking dead recently. It’s made me think of these things a lot.

>>321419Being good does not mean you lose more often. If anything it's the opposite because being evil breeds resentment and contempt in those that surround you and maybe they decide to kill you for your actions
