in picrel's situation there's nothing you can do other than say "thanks" and not drag it out any further: people will hate you for not shutting up/taking the "positivity." they want to feel like a good person, which is far more important to them than being honest. "the worst part about being lied to is knowing you weren't worth the truth." it's frustrating but unfixable, since ugly people are not allowed to complain without being seen as ungrateful disrupters of the peace.

If you don't trust someone, you don't have to interact with them and if you work together or something you can interact with them as little as possible. Worrying about what people think all the time will paralyze you and is pointless because people are fickle things. Those that love you one day may hate you the next.

yh, i agree. overthinking about other people's intentions is paralysing, plus a bit invasive because it's not anyone's business to inspect the private thoughts of others. assuming the worst of others is also cruel in its own way, since it paints someone as a bad liar. but genuinely, there are tons of people that think they're god's gift for saying "wow you shouldn't be insecure, you're so beautiful" when they're lying through their teeth - like those girls that are "self love" gurus, but get touchy when they're compared to fat girls. it's the self congratulating attitude that is so backwards. but you're right tbh, even with that being said, the best option is to avoid deciding for oneself what other people think. it's self-centred just the same. i guess i just hate dishonest people that say everyone should lie to themselves and be happy when that's encouraged

A thought repeated enough times becomes belief. Belief unchecked and unabated becomes truth. Truth shapes reality. You should remember this and be conscious of your thoughts however real or unreal they may seem. If you wake up everyday, look in the mirror, and think "I'm so ugly", then you'll subconsciously act accordingly. Maybe you won't put effort into looking better because what's the point? Maybe you'll avoid speaking to someone or doing something or you'll act like you don't belong, etc. You can't control how others treat you but you can control how you react to it.

never trust them, if someone's rushing to defend themselves with "omg, stop imagining what we think", then know they only do that because you exposed the truth
you can keep doing that IRL, exposing the ugly truths about them that they feel insecure about, it will be hard because ppl will forgive even murder if the murderer is pretty, but it is possible because keeping exposing the truth this way makes them nervous and being nervous makes them uglier in their own and others' eyes
it doesn't even have to be something as big as their rotten thoughts that are true but difficult to prove, choose smaller targets that they are insecure about, no matter how insignificant they are, and manipulate the public's eye into seeing this as their defining features

but do not despair, OP, because while the "ugly" ones are at a great disadvantage in everything, even being denied jobs, you can outweigh this disadvantage with charisma, and developing charisma is possible, just takes practice
