why am i still sad when my life is so much better than it was a few years ago? Anonymous 133321

i feel super cringe writing this cause my life isn't even that bad anymore, but i'm still super sad for seemingly no reason
i feel really stupid whenever i miss classes or break down about going outside or don't clean my room or do work until it's too much to do…
i've been getting therapy and trying essentially every medication for anxiety and depression since freshman year. which on its own shows my life is pretty good since my dad got me medical help…
but i really can't figure out why i'm still so sad? my life is okay. i still live with my dad (i'm in uni) and he doesn't expect me to get a job yet or anything. he just wants me to get good grades, keep my room clean, take my meds, and feed the cats. but even that's so hard for me. it makes me feel like i'll never be a functional adult cause i can't even do simple tasks. i don't have any hobbies either. i used to draw and play instruments and sing but i never liked doing that. i don't even play video games or watch anime anymore, so all of the games and anime i like were made before 2022.
i wonder if i'm a spoiled brat or something. i guess i had a difficult childhood, but my dad got custody of me when i was in seventh grade, so it makes no sense why im not fine now ???
sorry for stupid rambling, i kinda just wanted somewhere to let this stuff out.

sounds similar to me. having a "good life" didn't help.

have you tried psychedelics like mushrooms? they really helped me break through some heavy depression. dont buy the fake gas station gummy kind either, grow the real thing (assuming it is legal in your state)

I think your life is missing spirituality. I used to avoid even discussing spiritual matters but I've since realized some people are simply not mentally strong enough to exist without a spiritual reason for being. They could have everything in the world but without a reason to live and go on they break down and end up doing something violent to themselves or others. I would really suggest getting more in touch with your spiritual side and that can mean many things as spirituality looks very different depending on who you ask but I'd just suggest exploring around and seeing if you find something you connect with.

i haven’t tried any kind of substances since my dad is super anti-drug and still checks all my packages to make sure it’s not anything i can hurt myself with. maybe if i eventually move out ill try something like that

You're definitely depressed op. Have you gotten a therapist?

i too would half agree with the spirituality thing the nona on top said, but i would also suggest you to start an hobbie!
Absolutely anything that can keep your mind off your daily life, maybe better something you can see grow each day that you can see in hobbies like sewing, gardening, drawing, making something in general.

I'll always suggest sewing because it's so versatile and it saved my life, but it can be anything.
I wish you the best of luck nona, even better times will come!
