im so fucking scared (period, birth control, anemia) Anonymous 22853
So i was on nexplanon for 3 years and didn't have a period. Then I got it out and had the worst periods of my life for 6 months. so I decided to go back on nexplanon. however this time, my periods didn't go away, and they last for a month, and now after a year i've been diagnosed with anemia (my ferritin level was 5 with the recommended range >100). the blood test cost me $400 and i fainted right after they took it. i went on iron supplements but what do i do now? it feels like i just bleed out all the iron i eat each month. if i get nexplanon taken out i bleed like crazy, but if i leave it in i have these month-long periods. i feel like this will eventually kill me, who knows how long my brain and heart have been running on low oxygen. but i live in the usa and don't have healthcare so uhhh

>>22853im sorry this sounds scary.
do you live in the usa? can you get on medicaid? there may be places you can go, depending on your state, that can treat you even though you are uninsured.
also, it's possible if you call the hospital and explain you're uninsured/in poverty, they will reduce the $400 bill. just say you literally couldn't afford it.

>>22854 thanks so much, this is actually really helpful advice… i will do those things! and luckily im from a blue state so hopefully they’ll have something
i’m just so flabbergasted that something as simple and normalized as going on birth control could lead to this terrible of a health consequence. i feel so bad for any other nona’s that have heavy bleeding.
if anyone reading this has heavy periods and feels tired all the time like me, then please get your iron checked before it gets bad…
